Reasons for abnormal oil pressure

When the oil pressure is too low, it is best to stop the vehicle to find the cause and eliminate it before driving.


        If the oil pressure is too low, it will cause the crankshaft bush to melt and "hold the shaft". If it is serious, the engine will be scrapped.

Reasons why oil pressure is always too low




        The oil pressure sensor is usually installed in the main oil passage. If the oil pressure sensor of the oil pressure gauge is normal, and the oil pressure gauge indicates that the pressure is too low, the cause of the failure can be analyzed according to the composition of the lubrication system and the oil circuit.


        Oil pressure sensor: The main reason is that the oil circuit is not smooth (such as filter blockage) or insufficient oil supply (such as insufficient oil volume), resulting in insufficient oil pressure.


        Oil pressure sensor: The main reason is that the oil drains too fast (such as the crankshaft bearing clearance).

(1) The oil pressure gauge is faulty or the oil passage leading to the pressure gauge is blocked. Loosen the nuts or bolts that connect the oil pipe to the oil pressure gauge (the other end is connected to the main oil passage), and observe that the pressure of the oil coming out is relatively high, indicating that the pressure gauge is faulty, or the oil pipe leading to the oil pressure gauge is blocked.


(2) The oil capacity is insufficient, the oil is deteriorated, or there is water in the oil. Regularly check the scale of the oil dipstick for oil storage in the oil pan, and add enough oil as required; check the cooperation between the piston ring and the cylinder liner, and repair it if the wear is serious.

(3) The grade of the oil is wrong and the viscosity is small, which makes the oil too thin. Replace with new oil that meets specification.


(4) The diesel engine is overloaded during the period, which makes the oil temperature too high and thin. Reduce the diesel engine load and do not allow period overloading.

(5) The oil filter is blocked, which reduces the oil intake and the pressure is too low. Clean the oil filter.


(6) The oil is too dirty or deteriorated after using for too long, which will block the filter screen or oil passage of the oil suction pan. The oil should be replaced with new oil and the oil passage of the filter should be cleaned.


(7) After the oil pump is worn, the internal leakage of the oil pump increases, the pump oil volume decreases, or the oil pump paper pad is damaged and oil leaks. It can be compensated by reducing the thickness of the gasket of the end cover of the oil pump. If the pump oil is still insufficient, the worn parts and damaged gaskets should be repaired or replaced.


(8) Lubrication parts such as main bearing, connecting rod bearing, camshaft and bushing are worn, the clearance increases, and the lubricant leaks too much.

Malfunction of sudden drop in oil pressure


1. Generally serious oil leakage, such as oil filter leakage, oil pan rupture, etc.


2. In addition, the oil pump is damaged, such as the serious wear between the gear and the pump casing of the oil pump, the serious wear between the pump shaft and the bearing, or the failure of the pump shaft and the failure of the pressure regulating device, so that the oil pump cannot establish a normal working pressure.

After such a situation occurs, the engine should be turned off immediately to avoid serious mechanical accidents.


3. The pressure is normal when the engine is just started, and the oil pressure decreases rapidly after running for a period of time. To diagnose such faults, the possible causes of the fault can be determined by analyzing the changes in the engine lubrication system.
