Different speed, low-viscosity oil has different fuel-saving effect


Many manufacturers have conducted experiments on low-viscosity oil, and found that the reduction of the internal operating resistance of the engine can indeed save fuel.


However, different parts of the engine have different requirements for oil viscosity at different speeds. For a small number of parts, low-viscosity oil is not necessarily better to use, and even has certain side effects.

Low viscosity oils are the most fuel efficient in the range of everyday use


The experimental results show that within the range of 1000 to 3000 rpm, the low-viscosity oil has the least side effects and the most obvious fuel-saving advantage. Outside this range, the fuel-saving effect is not so obvious.

The engines of Japanese cars have always been known for being reliable and fuel-efficient, which of course cannot be separated from the support of VVT technology.

VVT engines are different from ordinary engines. First of all, the design of the oil circuit is very particular, because when the advance and retard angles of the valve are adjusted, the operation is all done by the oil.


In order to ensure that the VVT can work in a timely and accurate manner, the VVT engine has very high requirements on the fluidity of the oil.

The automobile camshaft is the mechanism with the highest working pressure of the engine. The working state is sliding friction, and the running resistance is relatively large. The machining accuracy of the camshaft affects the engine performance and power output, so extremely high machining accuracy is required.


Japanese automobile manufacturers make the cam journal as smooth as a mirror through precise processing technology, and the extremely smooth journal surface greatly reduces the viscosity of the lubricating oil.

The engine works at a lower temperature


The optimized design of Japanese cars makes the engine work at a lower temperature, which is the most important condition for using low-viscosity oil.


The technical team of an oil research institute in Beijing passed the driving test and also drove at a speed of 100 kilometers per hour. The oil temperature of the oil pan of Japanese and Korean cars was far lower than that of Volkswagen cars, and the temperature of Japanese cars was less than 90℃. Volkswagen is close to 110°C.


Through experiments, it is concluded that the low operating temperature of the engine is the fundamental reason why Japanese cars can use low-viscosity oil. Japanese and old Volkswagen engines use oil with a viscosity of 5W20 and 5W40, respectively, and the oil under the engine operating temperature of 90° and 110°. The viscosity index is still similar, and the lubrication protection effect is good.

Low-viscosity engine oil is the goal of energy saving and fuel saving, and has been concerned and researched by Japanese OEMs for a long time;


Low-viscosity motor oil usually uses fully synthetic base oil with higher stability and is blended with specially developed additives;


Low-viscosity engine oil must be matched with high-precision engine components;


However, it is not recommended to blindly change low-viscosity oil in order to save fuel. It needs to be different from car to car. Car oil selection, suitable for the most important!
